Red Tea, also known as Rooibos Tea (Aspalathus linearis) is a member of Fabaceae family, and used for making herbal tea. Rooibos tea is also called “South African red tea” and it has many benefits.
Rooibos tree only grows in a small area in Cederberg Region, Western Cape, South Africa. The leaves are oxidised or fermented to get the reddish brown colour, thus creating the name “red rooibos tea”. Yet the green rooibos (the leaves without oxidation process) is also produced.

Red tea is an ideal beverage, as it can be sipped hot or cold. Cold red tea is refreshing, while hot red tea is soothing. The absence of caffeine in red tea makes it a wonderful bed-time beverage that can aid those with insomnia and calm an irritated throat. This is why Red Tea is better for you than Green Tea.
Cold red tea can quench summer thirst while offering the benefits of hydration and antioxidants, which are known to slow age and boost the immune system for greater protection against colds and/or illnesses.

Caffeine is also used in many energy drinks, and the prolonged effects are not good at all, since it is linked with problems above, and it can cause addiction. Million of people have caffeine addiction, and they do not realise it. Therefore, red rooibos tea combined with malt and milk can be a substitute for usual energy drink, with less side effects. Red rooibos tea is very recommended for active people such as athletes, hyperactive children or travellers who need to drink plenty of beverages.
Most individuals are aware of the body’s need for calcium and the importance of strong bones for both growing children and ageing adults. While milk and dairy products are rich sources of calcium, red tea may also be included as a source of calcium. Those who are lactose intolerant — have difficulty digesting dairy — may find red tea a refreshing alternative that is both easy to digest and good for the stomach.
